Why the hell is the number two spelled like that?

What insane person thought that a word spelled TWO should be pronounced the same as too or to? Why isnt it t-whoa or something

The English language is far too complicated to look at a word and go, "This word makes no sense," because there are just so many irregulars and words that really just don't make any sense. Example: Pneumonia. Why isn't it pronounced 'p-new-monia?'

Actually, there are more irregulars in the English language than in almost all common foreign languages (probably because the English language is an amalgamation of many different languages including Latin, Spanish, French, German, etc.). At least according to my Spanish teacher. I could be completely wrong here.
